More Background Information

Joseph J. Kowalski Jr. is a 13 year veteran of the USMC serving from 1980 -1993. He belongs to The Marine Corps League Silver City Detachment #45 where he has served as Commandant, Jr. and Sr. Vice Commandant, and Public Relations Officer, and he is a life member of the Force Recon Association of the Marine Corps. The colorful character we call “Sarge” is known in the motorcycling community as he is a licensed Harley Davidson Tech and has done a weekly radio broadcast called “The Biker Report” in Connecticut’s WCCC 106.9 FM since 1993. Kowalski is also an avid angler and has made the Connecticut B.A.S.S. Federation Nation State Team several times.  After recognizing the therapeutic value fishing has on his own PTSD, Joe made it his personal mission to take his fellow veterans fishing to help cope with and heal the wounds of war. In honor of his lifelong friend, Joe founded the Major Steven Roy Andrews Fishing Outreach Program and takes veterans and under privileged kids out fishing 2 – 3 times per week. Well known in the fishing world for his TV series “Rod’s & Wheel’s” which aired on ESPN2, Keith Alan & Joe first met at the 2006 Bassmaster Classic and started a friendship that would blossom to brotherhood after they met again at the 2011 Classic in New Orleans. In addition to his military career, Joe’s mission to help his fellow veterans with PTSD and TBI through his fishing outreach program makes him a true American Hero in his own right. He is changing, and in some cases, literally saving lives. Because he has first-hand experience, Joe has amazing insight and resources for information on veteran’s needs and causes, which makes him a valuable addition to the team. Kowalski now hosts the Beyond The Experience feature in the American Hero Experience TV Series on NBC Sports Network.
